The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Slovak Republic Mr Nicos P. Nicolaou, presented on the 21st of November 2019 his credentials to President, Ms  Zuzana Čaputová

Ambassador Nicolaou conveyed to President Čaputová the warm greetings of  President Nicos Anastasiades and expressed Cyprus’ deep appreciation for the principled stance of the Slovak Republic on the Cyprus question and its commitment to international law. Mr. Nicolaou briefed President Čaputová on the consequences of the continuing military occupation, as a result of the invasion of Turkey in 1974, and the recent provocative activities of Turkey within the Exclusive Economic Zone and the Territorial Sea of Cyprus. The new Ambassador added that Cyprus attaches great importance to the strengthening of its relations with Slovakia both at the bilateral and multilateral level.

“The Ambassador of Cyprus thanked the President, specifically for the contribution of the Slovak Republic in maintaining peace in Cyprus with the participation of the Slovak Peacekeepers in the United Nations Force in Cyprus.”

Furthermore, the Ambassador of Cyprus thanked the President, specifically for the contribution of the Slovak Republic in maintaining peace in Cyprus with the participation of the Slovak Peacekeepers in the United Nations Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), as well as for the active involvement of the Slovak Republic, in encouraging and facilitating intercommunal contacts of political parties in Cyprus.

The President of the Slovak Republic Ms Čaputová reaffirmed the constant support of her country for the solution of the Cyprus question and expressed interest in the further development of bilateral relations in the sector of investments.
