The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus is expanding the checks for the coronavirus to passengers who have travelled to Northern Italy, the Republic of Korea, Iran, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

According to a press release, due to the continuing spread of the coronavirus epidemic and despite that instructions issued by the World Health Organisation and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control have not yet changed, the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Ministry of Health has expanded checks to passengers who in the last fortnight have travelled to Northern Italy (Veneto-Venice, Lombardy-Milan, Emilia-Romagna-Bologna, Piedmont-Turin), the Republic of Korea, Iran, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Cypriot citizens who are in or intend to travel to various countries abroad to avoid visiting areas which reported high numbers of COVID-19 cases and generally restrict their travels to the absolutely necessary.

Cypriot citizens visiting or living in those areas or intending to travel there are called on to be extremely careful and follow local and international news, as well as for instructions issued by authorities.

Furthermore, Cypriots intending to travel abroad are encouraged to visit www.oikade.gov.cy to register in the voluntary registration system for Cypriot citizens.

In an emergency, Cypriot citizens can contact the diplomatic missions of the Republic. All contact information can be found on the website of the Foreign Ministry www.mfa.gov.cy, specifically at http://www.mfa.gov.cy/mfa/mfa2016.nsf/mfa50_gr/mfa50_gr?OpenDocument.
