The Cyprus Republic will evacuate its citizens stranded mostly in Greece and the UK, following the COVID19 outbreak, with charter flights that will land at Larnaka and Paphos airports.

Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos told the media Thursday that some of these flights might land even after the decree to be put in effect March 21 for a total prohibition of flights in and out of the island.

The Minister said that all those who fulfill the prerequisites should call 24 841100, between 08:00 am – 08:00 pm, and give out their contact details for coordination purposes. Karousos said that that the government has already contacted airline companies and tour operators in order to accommodate all those who want to return home and have all the necessary details in hand.

He went on to say that the first flights will come from the UK and that there are around 500 citizens who want to return, mostly from the UK.

The Ministers said that citizens should not panic because the flights will land to Cyprus even after the decree for the total closedown of airports. He also said that today a flight from Athens, carried out by Aegean Airlines, will land, bringing home citizens from Greece.
