Cypriot civil engineers in Tirana to help with building inspections

A team of civil engineers arrived on Tuesday in Tirana, at the initiative of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Cyprus after consulting the Albanian government, in order to assist in post-earthquake inspections of building, following the November 26 earthquake.

A Foreign Ministry announcement says that the Cypriot team consists of six civil engineers, the head representative of Civil Defence and an Embassy official stationed in Athens.

After arriving in Tirana, the team was briefed by the EU’s emergency response mechanism and started inspections on Wednesday.

The Cyprus Association of Civil Engineers says in a separate announcement that its members responded immediately to a call by the Technical Chamber of Cyprus, the Foreign Ministry and Civil Defence to assist the Albanian authorities in carrying out building inspections.
